Lockheed Federal Credit Union Recognizes Outstanding Students

Youth Selected for Overall Performance

 

BURBANK, Calif. (April 17, 2007) Lockheed Federal Credit Union (LFCU) announced the recipients of its Student of the Month award. The Student of the Month program recognizes one high school students from the William S. Hart district who demonstrates strong academic achievement, leadership traits and participates in extra curricular or community related activities. Selected students receive a cash award of $250 and recognition in district publications. LFCU partnered with the William S. Hart district to launch the Student of the Month program in 2005.

 

·   January – Santa Clarita West Ranch High School junior Sean Herron, nominated by West Ranch ASB Director Todd Arrowsmith

 

Herron maintains a grade-point average above 3.8 and has been listed on the Principal’s Honor Role (3.8 GPA or higher) since his freshman year. He is also the Associated Student Body (ASB) president, a founding member of West Ranch TV and serves on the City of Santa Clarita’s VIP Committee. He is also an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).

 

“Sean (Herron) has become a clear standout.  He is a highly motivated student, always prepared, always striving to improve,” Arrowsmith said. “I admire his keen mind, his passion for what he holds to be true and his belief for what an education will bring.  He has strong confidence in himself and the ability to chart his future.”

 

Also marking Herron’s leadership skills, he is the West Ranch Boys State Representative, and a National FBLA Award Winner.

 

·   February - Golden Valley High School junior Wendy Guevara, nominated by Principal Jacque Snyder and ASB Director Laura Beers-Dannerth

 

Guevara has an overall GPA of 4.24 and is enrolled in several advanced classes. She has also taken classes at College of the Canyons (COC). In the athletic arena, she has been a member of the softball and girls soccer teams since her freshman year.

 

Her experience in student government has ranged from an ASB officer as a freshman, to sophomore class president, and ASB president this year.


 

“Wendy (Guevara) takes her role seriously as ASB President, and has been supporting her classmates ever since arriving at Golden Valley High School,” Snyder said. “She is truly an ambassador for our school both here and in the community.”

 

Guevara is involved in the community, participating in Golden Valley High’s blood drive, and other community service endeavors, including Couples for a Cure, hurricane relief and food drives. Last year, she initiated and volunteered for a new program called Holiday Helpers, which gives staff the opportunity to shop on a weekend during the holiday season while student volunteers offer child care.

 

·   March - Jereann Bowman High School senior Cristina Leane Morgan, nominated by
Principal Robin Geissler

 

Morgan is a top-credit earner with a GPA of 4.0. She is taking classes at COC, earning her additional credit for high school and college. She is a participant in several ASB events, including a food drive.

 

“Cristina (Morgan) is a strong young lady who has overcome many challenges in her life…. She is very deserving of this prestigious award,” Geissler said.

 

Her leadership abilities are expressed as she participates in the Junior Achievement Program, job shadowing and peer counseling. Also to Morgan’s credit, she made a presentation to the Santa Clarita City Council on solving traffic problems at Bowman High School. Cristina has been recognized as Bowman’s Student of the Month by her teachers and as a Signal Newspaper’s Hero of the Week. Her other activities include soccer, dancing and singing.

 

The Program

During the academic year, the Student of the Month program recognizes one high school student each month. School administrators or faculty nominate students based on overall performance, including academic accomplishments, extra curricular activities, leadership, and other notable experiences. The winning high school student receives a cash award of $250.
